During my ten years of service in the Coast Guard I traveled all over the United States and met countless people. All of them different in various ways yet many of them shared the same values about healthy chemical-free food that I do. This growing chorus of unanimous concern over our food is what led me to say goodbye to my military career and found Golden Gate Organics (GGO) in March of 2011.
We started in the city of Alameda and have slowly expanded to cover the entire East Bay. I am proud to say that, over the last two years, we have been able to donate over $5,000 of organic produce to the Alameda Food Bank.
Our mission at GGO is to educate the public about just what exactly organic food is, why it is different, and why people should care — all while providing the highest quality organic produce and service. The reputation we are building with GGO customers is a great one. Our members see the difference between us and the other organic produce delivery services and they rave about our ability to customize their orders, and most importantly, our excellent customer service. It also doesn’t hurt that we are the only business of our kind based in the East Bay.
I take pleasure in the opportunity to meet people face-to-face to answer their questions and hear their stories. Without them and their priority of eating healthy, natural, and sustainable food I wouldn’t be here today. So please stop by our booth this Saturday and try some organic goodies, ask questions, and just have a good time. Remember, the question shouldn’t be “Why is organic food so expensive?” It’s “Why is conventional food so cheap?”
